So this isn’t my first ever blog post, but it’s the first that I will take seriously.. Maybe the college blog I was being graded for should have been more important! Oh well..
I’ll start with a quick introduction, it would be rude not to! So I’m Chris. I’m a Graphic Designer (self taught) and I currently work in my first industry job at A2B Signs & Graphics, and I definitely chose the right career! The job is great.
My background in Design is quite short.. as I said before i’m self taught. Believe it or not I started my design career working and advertising on Youtube, only for friends who wanted new banner art, but hey! It’s a start! After this I went to college to get what I thought was required to get a job in the future. So in 2014 I started my Graphic Design course at NULC (Newcastle Under Lyme College) and it didn’t start too well.. The problem was that I thought I was too good to be in the level of class which I was in, and didn’t take things seriously at first. After the first grade came back I felt pretty low, my predicted grade was nearly the lowest possible.. Anyway, roll on a year or so and things started to pick up, and after I found what was interesting me the most, I found it easy to make some great designs! And eventually finished with a DDM. As it was a level 3 Btec Diploma this was enough to get me to Uni!
So later that year I joined Derby University, and again, I started slow and got better and enjoyed it more as I went through the course. Anyway, it doesn’t matter too much as I never finished University! I left after 1 and a half years (due to illness) and started the job search!
First job - As an act of desperation for money, I was a vacuum cleaner salesman.. Yeah, my thought too…
Second job - I was getting somewhere, and a Designer / Administrator for a local tyre retailer.
And now i’m at A2B, creating new things everyday, and it’s great! I’m learning new things and overcoming different problems each and every day, doing my best to better my skills.
So for an Introduction, that’s about it for me, I suppose I will go into more detail in future posts.
So thanks for reading, and I will see you soon
